The basics.
FAIR is the next effort by Prepare + Prosper and its partners to help low- to moderate-income people achieve financial health and wealth. Partnering with Sunrise Banks, N.A., Member FDIC, Prepare + Prosper worked hand-in-hand with consumers to build the FAIR Financial Solution, designed to meet people where they are at. Our goal is financial inclusion for all.
FAIR is for anyone looking for an affordable banking solution. Especially for those who:
- Want clear and simple fees and features
- Are looking for a banking solution built with and for consumers who are financially underserved
- Desire an alternative to check cashers, money orders, and other expensive services
- Are looking for ways to build their credit history
There are a few requirements, though. To apply for an account, you’ll need:
- Name, Social Security number, date of birth, and residential address
- A current valid form of primary identification such as driver’s license, state-issued ID card, passport, military ID, or Tribal ID
- No prior record of financial fraud
When we set out to build FAIR, we asked 150 community members who are un- or under-banked what they wanted and needed in their accounts. The result was a set of products (checking, savings, credit builder) that work together to offer more control with less fees. The checking and savings account don’t require a monthly minimum balance. No account overdraft on checking. View a full fee schedule.
FAIR is a program of Prepare + Prosper and is a nonprofit organization and is not a bank. Banking services are provided by Sunrise Banks N.A. Your funds are FDIC insured up to $250,000 through Sunrise Banks, N.A., Member FDIC.
Using FAIR accounts.
FAIR makes it possible for you to bank anywhere, anytime. Our “branchless” banking solves for a lack of locations in your neighborhood or hours that don’t work for your schedule. Instead, you can do your banking from your computer, tablet, or phone—when it works for you—via our app or online banking site.
You may only use the funds available in your FAIR checking and savings accounts. Generally, transactions that are greater than your balance will be declined. As a result, you won’t receive any account overdraft or non-sufficient funds fees.
Your FAIR Mastercard® debit card can be used to access cash from your account everywhere Debit Mastercard is accepted. You can do this at any of the eight Sunrise Banks ATM’s or one of the many store locations that offer cash back at point of sale for no extra.
Through mobile and online banking you can set up a variety of text and/or email alerts to keep you up to date on what is happening with your money. We’ll set walk you through what you need when you sign up.3
You can deposit checks into your account through your mobile device. Simply go the FAIR app and take a photo of the paper check with your device. You can also set up direct deposit by providing your account number and routing number to your employer or benefit provider. Or, if you prefer, you can visit a Sunrise Banks branch.
No, you do not need a smart phone. But we believe you’ll get a lot more out of your FAIR accounts with the mobile app. The mobile app is required to use mobile banking, as well as the Mobile Deposit feature. However, it is possible to access all other features through online banking.
